If you follow me on Instagram, you will see a lot of food pictures. Some of them are of actual my home-cooked meals. I love cooking so much. Cleaning…not so much. It was a gradual process, because trust me, I used to eat out every day. But I was gaining weight like crazy, so I slowly started cooking here and there.
Nowadays, I try making full meals, and try to skip those instant pasta and sandwich meals. My reasons are a lot different now that I have my weight under control. Here are three reasons I choose to cook.
1. A Sense of Accomplishment
I am the type of person that loves to see a final product for all of my effort. It could explain why I like art so much or why I choose project management as a career goal of mine. Knowing there is a start and finish motivates me, and when the final results are great, I end up feeling great.
2. A Sense of Home
I realize it now, but I really took my mom’s cooking for granted. I love knowing that if I went home, a warm meal was waiting to fill my belly. I want others, and myself, to feel that when they step into my home. I do believe in 50/50 kitchen work, so Mr. Lumberjack will cook sometimes. However, I like seeing him enjoy my cooking.
3. A Sense of Motherhood
This is probably the biggest reason. Sometimes I have this feeling that I have to do it all and have it all. And I question if I would be able to be a good mother, and give my children a meal every night and make sure they get all their nutrients. When I cook, I am practicing. Then, at the end of it all, I feel like I am capable and I can conquer anything.
Those are my top three reasons for cooking so much. The last one really strikes a cord for me, because I want to do my best in life. Let me know what inspires you to cook.
