It’s a Jungle In Here! (Plant Collection)

Hi Globetrotters,

It’s official! I’ve turned into my mother. I used to be completely bored for every Home Depot trip and now I’m obsessed. I look forward to every Home Depot trip, which is often since we’re building a few things for our home.

It all started when my colleague gave me so many plants for my new home. He has a fabulous collection as well. I ended up sharing the wealth with my mom and mother-in-law. I am clueless with plants, so with a lot of research and Instagram knowing what I’m searching, I collected more and more plants. I plan on getting that jungle aesthetic in my home.

After the chain of events, I currently sit at home with 13 plants. I have invested so much money already, especially those pots. Why are they so expensive? I hope they make it through the winter. I need my quarantine hobby to last into next year.

I’m listing all my plants here, partially because I’m proud of them but also I will forget their names. I probably will need to Google later on how to take care of each one of these in the Spring. Here we go:

Joseph’s Coat
Botanical Name: Petra Croton

Gift from a precious friend in 2017 and one of the easiest plants I have grown.

Lucky Bamboo
Botanical Name: Dracaena Braunii

Bought on my first day of my current job as a gift to myself. It suffered stuck in the office during the beginning of COVID, but I am saving it.

Rubber Fig Tree
Botanical Name: Ficus Elastica

Bought at Home Depot as a new home gift to myself. It looked so full and beautiful, so I had to.

Monstera
Botanical Name: Monstera Deliciosa

The Swiss Cheese Plant my colleague gave me. This plant launched my plant obssession.

Bird’s Nest Snake
Botanical Name: Sansevieria Hahnii

Short and stout snake plant from my colleague that was well established. It had another pup attached already and I recently propagated one for my mom and MIL.

Classic Succulent
Botanical Name: Echeveria Succulent

Bought to go with a terranium. My colleague gave me a pencil cactus (it eventually died), but it was to make this can look full.

Zebra Cactus
Botanical Name: Haworthia Attenuata

One of my favorite plants. I don’t like prickly cacti, so this cactus is perfect. Those ridges feel really nice and it absorbed a little of the dye from the moss.

Kumquat Tree
Botanical Name: Nagami Kumquat

A gift from Mr. Lumberjack because I kept staring at it. It is the most high-maintenance plant and I haven’t quite figured out how to keep it alive.

Elephant Ear
Botanical Name: Alocasia Macrorrhiza

After a visit to my colleague’s. I admired his giant Elephant Ear. So when Home Depot just got a shipment of these, I snatched it up. It is really small now, but in due time, it will hover over me.

Superba Snake
Botanical Name: Sansevieria Superba

I am such a fan of snake plants. I love the thick leaves and the beautiful patterns on them.

Aloe Vera
Botanical Name: Aloe Barbadensis Miller

This isn’t my favorite looking plant. However with so many benefits, I couldn’t pass it up. This one looked plump so why not?

Rattle Snake
Botanical Name: Calathea Lancifolia

I prefer dark green, thick-leag plants. I don’t really go for dark purple plants. The pattern on this plant is so unique though. I got my mom the same plant so we can match.

Elephant Bush
Botanical Name: Portulacaria Afra

My most recent purchase. Since the pencil cactus died, I had to throw it out and the container was looking empty and this added a unique texture to the container.

I tend to go for very lush, hearty green leaves- give or take a few. They each need unique care and are my plant babies. What are you doing to keep yourself busy?
